Our Elders & Deacons
In the Bible, God instructs the church to maintain two offices. The office referenced in Scripture by the words "pastor" (Ephesians 4:11), "elder"(Titus 1:5-9, 1 Peter 1:1-5), and "overseer" (1 Timothy 3:1-7) is to be filled by qualified men who lead the church in the ministry of God's Word. The office of deacon is to be filled by members of the church of upstanding character who show themselves to be exemplary in practical service (1 Timothy 3:8-13, Acts 6:1-6).
Kurt Heath (pastor/elder)
Kurt Heath became a Christian his freshman year of high school. After graduating from Wheaton College, Kurt went on to work at a communications firm in Washington D.C., and made the historic Capitol Hill Baptist his church home. Between stints working as a congressional communications officer, Kurt completed a pastoral residency at Capitol Hill Baptist, where he learned more about church leadership and pastoral ministry. He works for a PR firm in downtown Portland and lives in Gladstone with his wife Jayna and four kids. Originally from Ohio, Kurt is (and always will be) a die-hard Buckeye's fan.

She and Darrel have four adult children, one son-in-law, one daughter-in-law, and one grandson on the way. She is thankful to be part of the Sellwood family serving as deacon in Children’s ministry.
